Canvas

Part 1. Deploying the W. W. Norton Learning Tools App

Note: If you are transitioning from Norton 1.1, we recommend following the below steps between semesters.

Overview

W. W. Norton’s LTI 1.3 Apps are registered globally with Canvas, so deploying them is an easy process. You will need to install 2 Norton Apps:

  • Part 1 provides instructions for adding Norton Learning Tools,1.3, which allows for our legacy links to work. This ensures a seamless transition for instructors who have 1.1 links in their course, or plan to upload new files containing those links.
    • If you were previously integrating with Norton products using LTI 1.1, then you should delete the LTI 1.1 App before deploying the LTI 1.3 App.
  • Part 2 provides instructions for adding Norton Deep Linking, which has deep linking enabled. Deep linking will make your instructors’ course set up much easier going forward. As we build out additional services into our newer App, we will eventually deprecate the older one.

If you are transitioning from Norton LTI 1.1, please only migrate the App in a break between terms when no active courses are in session using the LTI 1.1 links.

Before you begin: If applicable, delete the W.W. Norton LTI 1.1 App for Norton digital products.

If you have integrated with Norton resources using LTI 1.1, only follow these instructions when there are no courses actively using the LTI 1.1 App.

  1. If the LTI 1.1 App is installed at the campus level, locate the App, and remove it.
  2. If instructors at your institution created LTI 1.1 Apps in their courses without your IT department's involvement, please work with your Norton contact to identify who they are. They will need to ensure that the LTI 1.1 App is removed from any new courses.

In Canvas, you can deploy an LTI 1.3 App for your entire account, for a subaccount, or for a single course. We recommend that you deploy it for your entire account.
